About
Hello, I'm Sylvia (she/her).
I'm a green bean.1 I like milky tea, potatoes in all their forms, and science fantasy.
My favorite punctuation is the em dash (—) and my favorite emoji is 🙃. I enjoy parentheticals and segues and non sequiturs.
I also enjoy webcomics, particularly the following:2
- How to be perfectly unhappy
- Wisdom of the ancients
- Connoisseur
- Spider paleontology
- Range of emotions
My husband, E, has told me that my minutes are four times longer than his minutes. We live with our two cats in California.

This is my only internet presence; I am not elsewhere.
About this site
I have not created something for myself in a long while — and after reading Bringing back the minimal web and Don't make a blog, make a brain dump, I decided to spin up this little personal website.3
This website is:
- Powered by Bear ᕦʕ •ᴥ•ʔᕤ
- Written with Notepad++ and a QAZ keyboard
- Styled with Base2Tone's Pool colors and Yordi's light/dark mode switch
- Licensed under CC BY-NC-SA4 (not everything shared is written by me, but original authors are referenced & linked — they have their own licenses)
- Created by human, not by AI
- Hidden from search engines
My theme was inspired by:
- e.e. cumming's [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] — the heart in heart
- Bookshelf Town — the bookshelf
My note categories were inspired by:
- Phil's What is it about people who write Weeknotes? — #weeknote posts
- misu's looking back on 100k words — #wordvomit posts
- My poor memory — #process posts
In the spirit of learning in public, I'm sharing:
- My sandbox, where I play with CSS
- My theme CSS (outdated, will update soon)
- The Markdown for my pages (outdated, will update soon)
- A changelog

What vegetable are you? This thing thinks I'm more fun than I actually am. ↩
I've included these here because they say something about my point of view & experience. ↩
I also like the spirit of Learn in public, but am allergic to commitment, so it only gets a mention in the footnote here. ↩
This is here because I read that not stating things means a very serious All Rights Reserved ©. This is not the spirit in which I'm sharing, so here is a license I think I'm comfortable with for my content. The HTML/CSS I write & share are meant for others to use as they wish. ↩
