Why I called my blog what I did (traded blog post)

3. A parenthetical departure; a digression.
I'd like to claim thoughtful intention, but the truth is I named my blog on a whim: I saw the definition of aside,2 thought it was beautiful,1 wanted to put it somewhere, and so I put it here:
- A parenthetical departure, my blog
- A digression, my blog sandbox
- Aside, my self-hosted blog backup
Once I applied the name, it felt fitting — it's just so very me, my branching thoughts. An old friend once said that text-based conversation with me was challenging because it's never one thread of thought, that I'm often talking about three things at once. (This was before quoted replies was a common feature in chat apps.)
Since then, I've kept the name because it reminds me of what this blog is to me: a place to capture my whims. As a recovering perfectionist, I tend towards constantly picking at my words in the desire to present clear, polished thought and writing — and my blog name is a reminder that what's here can be messy, inconsistent, meandering, incoherent, and incomplete.

The title I gave to Zach is: Fictional worlds I'd live in. While onboarding new remote teammates and facilitating intros, I like to ask everyone one funky question — and this was a fun one. My answer was Star Trek — as someone who prioritizes comfort and stability, I would fare best in a post-scarcity world.
