Links 2025-01
A list of links to things I liked & shared with friends this month:
2025: may I have an uneventful year
- A colleague said to me, "May your year be full of very precedented situations."
-
- I wonder how Kwame Anthony Appiah1 would answer this question.
-
- I wandered here and read Hospitals, then every other page.
Don't call it a Substack + “Link In Bio” is a slow knife
- On the importance of human links. Just remembering how way back when, Google was superior to its contemporaries because it considered how many people linked to a website. It appears these days, people are discouraged from linking; bots + algorithms link instead. (I revolt! I shall link and link and link.)
Wikipedia is only a non-profit because of a labour strike
- Oof. I cannot imagine (and despise the idea of) an ad-driven Wikipedia.
"fuck them and their stupid red ties"
- A little levity.
-
- There's a community I once described as, "People can be awful and very civil about their awfulness." I knew my description was lacking, but I did not have the words. This article describes it well.
-
- What a wonderful, illustrative photo of static cling.
Human genome stored on ‘everlasting’ memory crystal
- They had me at "5D memory crystal," but I was most intrigued with the Memory of Mankind time capsule.
The Ethicist is my favorite column. ↩
