Memories

A more intentional continuation of Moments that stick in my mind. In Inside Out 2, the Sense of Self is powered by memories stored in the Belief System. I wanted my memories of this type (disclaimer) to sit on the same page instead of within separate blog posts.

It was my first month of high school. I was in a new school district, eager to meet new people & make new friends. Clubs were the best way to do so, and a friend recommended one that I was enthusiastic to join. But when I spoke to the teacher about membership, she turned me away, informing me that I did not meet the requirements.

I didn't think much of it & recommended the club to others, walking them to the classroom to sign up. When she saw me bringing them in, she paused. Then she said, "I like you," and invited me to participate in club activities even though I couldn't officially be a member.

I was playing an MMO and wanted a rare & expensive cosmetic item — a pair of wings I'd never managed to get. A player was selling/trading it, but declined all of my offers. He was searching for his own unicorn & having a difficult time of it, hoping the wings would get him closer.

At the time, I was wheeling & dealing in the guild and following the market — I noticed a three-way trade opportunity that would help him obtain his unicorn. I told him about it & connected him with the other players.

After the exchange, he followed up and said, "I like your abundance mindset," then whipped out the wings (he had a second pair!) and traded them to me for a much lower value cosmetic item. I didn't know what an abundance mindset was and had to look it up.
