Persian cake recipe
A recipe from the Good Samaritan Church in Corvallis, Oregon. From Pat:
I did manage to get the recipe for the cake you enjoyed at Good Samaritan Church. It was indeed delicious. The recipe was from a Persian Restaurant in San Francisco and was obtained a good 50+ years ago.
Marilyn was given the recipe when she was about 10 years old and devoured the cake when dining with her parents. She states she was a very assertive 10 year old. She gave me the recipe from memory (over the phone) because she has made it all of these years.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups light golden brown sugar
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Sliced almonds or other nuts of your choice
Instructions
Grease a 13x9 pan. Turn oven on to 350 degrees.
Mix together equal amounts of flour and lt. golden brown sugar (about 2 cups each - one whole 1# box of the brown sugar and equal flour).
Mix that with one cup of softened butter.
Divide dough in half and put half into the pan - patting it evenly to fill the pan.
In a separate bowl:
- 1 cup sour cream (16 oz ?)
- Beat an egg and add 1 tsp. baking soda to the egg - mix it
- Add egg mixture to the sour cream and then add that mixture to the other half of the dough.
Pour it into the cake pan.
Sprinkle sliced almonds on top (as many as you have or other nuts of your choice).
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
