Weeknotes 2024-49
Happenings
Not exercising for a few weeks has introduced so many aches in my body. 😔
The new Delta tub spout was too chonky. I requested a return & ordered a Signature Hardware one instead. It's arrived. Just need to schedule the plumber & have it installed now.
Received my bonus & splurged on 2 new black dresses — to replace 2 other black dresses I've been needing to remove from my rotation (due to wear & discomfort).
Revisited our finances & discussed our savings plan for the new year. We spent all of our emergency savings this year1 & need to replenish.
Watching, gaming
I felt like watching a Korean contract marriage story. They tend to be easy watches — some bickering and cutesy romance. So I decided to try When the Phone Rings and The Trunk. What did I get myself into. These are not cutesy at all.
I am obsessed with base-building in Core Keeper.
Tinkering
I remembered Pidgin, so it's what I'm using for XMPP now. I had forgotten that we once used a single app for all of our chat services. It turns out my Jabber ID from way back when now shares a name with an organization I do not wish to be associated with. I'm going to have to change it.
I haven't used an RSS reader since Google Reader died. After reading blogs by manually visiting them for a few months, I've decided to see how I might feel about using an RSS reader again. I wanted something simple that didn't require a mobile app, so I'm trying out Miniflux on PikaPods. (Only $1/month! And it's multi-user.)
Thinking
The death of UnitedHealthcare's CEO reminded me:
First, of social murder:
the unnatural death that occurs due to social, political, or economic oppression. [...] social murder explicitly was committed by the political and social elite against the poorest in society.2
And second, of Josh Johnson's bit:
If women want accountability for men like this, you can't just depend on the justice system, you know. You're going to have to start ... probably killing.
(Per John Oliver, "It's only funny if it's true. It has to be true for it to be funny.")
Dione's 🐈 FIP treatment, flooring & bathroom renovations (due to water damage), car maintenance, medical expenses. It's been an expensive year. ↩
Hum. The first sentence on the wiki page changed from when I originally saved the definition. Someone added the word "purportedly." ↩
