Tinkering
My cute little x220 arrived! I haven't had a laptop in years, so I'm happy to have something portable again. (I can see why ThinkPad enthusiasts are so fond of its keyboard; it really is comfy to type on.) I've been reading about x220 upgrades, but I think I'll use the hardware as is for a while before attempting any mods.
I've been looking into Linux distros and asking Bearblog neighbors who've mentioned Linux about their experiences.1 There are so many options, so I'm just going to go with the purple one. I'm thinking Xfce DE + i3 WM. Just waiting for the power adapter to arrive before I start playing with it.
Tried out mgx's new tool, nanuq, and now have a self-hosted backup of this blog. I've been wanting something like this for a while! The tool exports everything with a default Bearblog theme (or other theme CSS), but I opted not to use it. I'll likely throw together some CSS for the backup static site later, but I'm happy with what it is for now.
Gaming
Splendor — A gifted E this board game for his birthday. I must say, learning a new game together is the most fun. (What I'm really saying: It's nice to play a game E isn't familiar with, so I can do some winning too.)
Don't Starve Together — Everything caught on fire when summer rolled around, so we died & restarted. It's now summer again. We are surviving so far... and this time, I have a little fruit fly helping me tend my crops.
