Weeknotes 2025-33
Last night I ate a coffee bun. It was delicious, but it kept me up all night. (Why do I do this to myself?)
Happenings
E informed me that investing in the S&P 500 is investing in big tech is investing in AI.1 I knew these facts separately but did not thread them together. I checked my allocation to see how much of my life savings is invested in AI. About 20%. Eh.
After driving an hour to see my gynecologist, I learned from the receptionist that my appointment is next week. I'm thinking of taking out my copper IUD. Prior to insertion, I never experienced cramps. Now, I experience very painful ones — I thought they'd lessen over the years, but they haven't. I tried the arm implant previously, but was perpetually on my period. I guess my next option is a hormonal IUD. Trying to find birth control that works for me is a process.
Saw Fujii Kaze perform at The Greek Theatre2 — I paid $125 for parking, which was more expensive than the concert ticket itself (never again). Loved watching the sign language interpreter grooving to the music.
I've recovered from my respiratory issues (yay antibiotics), and I'm looking forward to having a fitness routine again. I'm following a couch to 5k plan to build up my cardio.
Puttering
I want a personal website too! That isn't all bloggy (that is to say, chronological). I want it to have pages that I work on over time. I want it to be about my interests. A compendium of sorts. No feed. I don't know. But I want something. I'm thinking about how I can make this Bearblog that (I love having just a box + publish button).
Bookshelf Town is so cute! But I want my Bearblog to be my one place for everything, so instead of creating an account, I started building my own book list. I have the skeleton down now, and I'll work on styles next.
Watching
The Newsroom — I am mourning the death of journalism.
The Sandman season 2 — Boring is the last word I thought I'd use to describe this. But I still love Lucifer and Hob.
Playing
Enshrouded — I am bad at these platforming bits (jumping, climbing, swinging). I resign to my death; just let the shroud take me. 😫 (Also, C suddenly moved to Malaysia. It's not the same without him. Time zones are hard.)
Factorio: Space Age — Worked on copper coil production for my green chippies (among other things, but 6 saturated belts of green chips are my project A, so they get a mention). The transport belts were not efficiently delivering the coils to the green chip machines because coils were loading to only one side, so I made a tweak to load them to both sides. I am happy with this little fix — since I thought I might have to rebuild the whole thing. 😁
Tinkering
My little x220 laptop is great, but I cannot deal with its screen any longer. I've decided to upgrade it and ordered an IPS panel off AliExpress4 (my first ever AliExpress order).
Back in April, my Mac Mini died. I've ordered a power supply replacement to repair it.
iPod modding3 looks fun (oh no). My iPod was stolen back in high school, so I'm casually looking for a used iPod on eBay.
I'm considering a used Pixel 3a to try out postmarketOS. I'll be forced to upgrade my iPhone 11 soon. I haven't spent time reading about postmarketOS yet, but it looks like my use case is covered.
He watched a video by Hank about this. ↩
When V invites me to things, I say yes. This is how I find myself at PlayStation events (don't own one), Final Fantasy concerts (don't play the games), and this show (who is Fujii Kaze?). ↩
discovering new music & ipod update (to mod or not to mod) ↩
I referred to ThinkPad X220 Resources for IPS panel recommendations. I haven't been able to find the recommended models anywhere, but this Reddit user had luck with this LP125WH2(SL)(B3) on AliExpress, so I'm giving it a try. I'd prefer to do the FHD mod (the nitrocaster mod kit isn't available, so I'm looking at the Chinese variant by a.gain (阿甘)), but I'm not confident I can do such fiddly soldering. Something for later. IPS first — if I still hate it, I'll try this next. ↩
